A new year always brings with it a wave of excitement about the future. People make plans, resolutions and changes in their lives. The same applies to business. BN Business Solutions has a resolution: To deliver the best service to our clients.
It is expected for employees to be caught in the wave of the start of a new year. They often set career goals and aim to do things differently from what they are accustomed to. For example, an employee who is known to show up late to work will make it point to try and be punctual in the new year. You can pin this on the ‘new year, new me’ platitude that most people ride on for the first few days or weeks of the year before they inevitably fall back on their old habits.
The trick is to maximise on this time. Catch your employees whilst they are still on ‘new year mode’ and ensure that they are motivated to maintain the verve long after the new year hype has died down. You will be surprised at the things that motivate employees to be at their best even when they are on the verge of falling back on their old habits.
A new piece of furniture can add more ‘character’ to the office. New responsibilities can make the employee feel trusted enough to be given more work. A well-deserved pay raise (yes, that one, no matter how small) can make the employee feel appreciated and frankly, employees can always do with more especially during the first weeks of the year. You can even go as far as to change offices. We did. Hello new and spacious offices, new boardroom and new neighbours! It’s never the same after positive changes. You can only go uphill from there.
How do you keep the verve going amongst your employees after the new year hype has died down?
